Legal Notice & Compliance

At The Wandering Barrel Co. we believe in serving every event with integrity, safety, and full compliance with all state and local regulations.

Alcohol Service Laws

  • Dry Hire Only: As a mobile bar company in Tennessee and most Appalachian states, we operate as a “dry hire” service. This means we do NOT sell or supply alcohol. The event host is legally required to purchase and provide all alcoholic beverages consumed at private events. We simply supply the equipment, certified bartender(s), and expertise to serve your guests responsibly and professionally.

  • ABC Certification: All bartenders provided are 21+ years old and have completed industry-recognized responsible alcohol server certification (where required) and are familiar with Tennessee ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Commission) laws and safe service practices, ABC approved, TIPS, ServSafe Alcohol Training, or equivalent certifications.

  • Liability & Insurance: We carry general liability insurance to protect guests, hosts, and our staff. Proof of insurance is available upon request.

  • Local Laws: All service is in compliance with Tennessee and local county law, including strict refusal of service for anyone under 21 or already intoxicated.

  • Permitting: If you wish to legally sell alcohol at your event (versus providing it for free/private use), a special event permit or license is required, if your event is public or you wish to sell alcohol, YOU (the host/venue) must obtain a Special Occasion License from TABC. We can advise but cannot apply on your behalf. We can also help you on the latest regulations and event requirements as needed.

  • Private vs. public event classification:
    – Private Event: Invitation-only event on private property → No special license needed
    – Public Event: Ticketed festival or open-to-the-public gathering → Special Occasion License required from TABC

Your Responsibilities as Host

  • You must provide all alcohol; we are not licensed to sell or distribute alcoholic beverages.

  • You must be the event host or the person legally allowed to authorize the serving of alcohol at your event site.

  • You are responsible for proper storage and legal purchase/transport of alcohol prior to your event.

  • Keg/tap equipment, i.e. draft beer equipment must be provided by the host or venue. Mobile bartenders cannot supply kegs or taps without an Off Premises/Caterer License or Off Premises. Under Tennessee dry-hire law, we cannot provide kegs or draft beer systems. Hosts must rent or purchase these separately. We're happy to recommend local suppliers.

  • If the host or venue holds valid and current general liability and/or liquor liability insurance; it must name the bartending company (The Wandering Barrel Co.) as an additional insured. Proof of insurance must be provided at least 7 days before your event.

  • Compliance with TABC rules: hosts must agree to TABC inspection rights and ensure all service staff follow state service hours and responsible-service regulations.

Staff & Age Requirements

  • All staff are over 18 years old (minimum legal age to serve alcohol in TN) and trained in checking identification and safe service procedures.

  • Alcoholic beverages will not be served to any guests under the age of 21. Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse service to individuals who cannot provide valid identification, those who exhibit disruptive or inappropriate behavior, or guests who appear to be intoxicated. Our priority is to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in upholding these standards.

Safety and Support

  • We reserve the right to pause or discontinue alcohol service if guest safety or compliance with the law is in question.

  • We support responsible transportation, ridesharing, and can assist guests in securing a safe ride home if needed.
